Getting to Know Rebecca Strain
Rebecca Strain
Managing consultant
For the sixth in our “Getting to Know” series we spoke with one of our Managing Consultants Rebecca Strain, who speaks to us about her career to date, her favourite destinations and her passion for technology.
1. What is the most interesting role you have had since joining Finyx?
I am currently leading the DDaT PMO on the NCA. This is both a challenging and extremely rewarding role, where I have been able to make tangible differences and process improvements, adding more rigour and offering best practice insights. The client team are open, welcoming, and truly driven to delivering on one of the agency’s strategic objectives via delivery of the Digital Transformation Programme.
2. How did you get to where you are now?
I have always had a passion for technology and the majority of my career to date has been working on large scale digital transformation programmes for well-known FTSE 100 companies. There have been a number of influential coaches and mentors who have supported me in my career to date and I am passionate about sharing my experiences and insights with my own coachees to help shape their career paths.
3. What is the most unusual job you ‘ve had?
I taught English in a Spanish primary school during my year abroad as part of my degree. This was a great experience but also solidified my opinion that teaching was not the career for me!
4. What motivates you?
I am motivated by delivering quality results for my clients and making a real difference and impact on the organisations we work with. Outside of work, I love travelling, visiting new places and enjoying the local cuisine!
5. Advice for people starting their career?
Keep an open mind and give everything a go. Never be afraid to ask for advice and also don’t be too hard on yourself. Everyone is on their own path and leverage the people around you to help you on your journey.
6. Are there specific qualities you look for in people that join your team?
I love working with like-minded, open and transparent people. This is truly the culture that Finyx embodies, and I have really enjoyed embedding into the culture and being supported by a fabulous group of colleagues.
7. What is the most exotic country you have been to?
Not sure if it falls under the exotic category but I visited Rome in 2018 with my Mum and we spent an amazing few days exploring the city, taking in the culture and of course indulging in the luxurious Italian cuisine. I would love to go back for longer next time.
8. If you could set up a Finyx office anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Madrid, without a doubt. The culture, cuisine and lifestyle is a dream and reminds me of my time spent living in Spain so has very fond memories.
9. If you could have lunch with a successful business person who would you choose? e.g Sheryl Sandberg, Jeff Bezos, Bear Grylls etc
Karen Brady. She is a truly inspirational figure and I recently listened to a podcast detailing her career to date, which was fascinating. She broke the mould in the sports field for championing women in a senior position and listening to the battles she fought provided a lot of food for thought. I think she has a lot of advice to offer in terms of never giving up and believing in yourself.
10. Tea or coffee?
Neither for me – water or wine!
